Pentecost, Graduate Recognition & Carry-In Lunch
This Sunday, May 19 we will celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Remember to wear your red! We will be having a light lunch of finger foods upstairs in the foyer and sanctuary before Ema's concert. Please bring a finger food to share. We will also celebrate the graduation of several of our young people – from high school and college – and hear some of their plans for the future.

Congratulations to our 2024 Graduates!

Piano Concert featuring Ema Iwasaki
Ema Iwasaki has been our church accompanist since she was a sophomore in high school. This year she is graduating from high school and will start college in the fall at Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute. We will miss her! She will finish out the month of May as our accompanist, but we’ve asked if she would do a concert for us on May 19. After worship (10:30 a.m.) we will have a light lunch and then gather for a concert of selections of her choice on the piano (around 12:30 p.m.). We hope you will join us for this day of celebration of our graduates and of our love for Ema as ends her time with us. We will be taking a love offering for her as a thank you.

Pastor’s Peeps This Summer
Pastor Robin is looking forward to hanging with her peeps this summer. We will meet in the classroom off the Fellowship Hall. Here are the dates:
June 18 at 3:00 pm
July 2, 9 & 16 at 10:00 am
Aug 6 & 20 at 10:00 am
(These are all Tuesdays)
All our Bethel kids, 3rd grade and older, are invited to this time of contemplative practices and Bible stories. Invite your friends!

Boundless Compassion – Worship and Group Experience
This June we will have a worship series and group experience around the book Boundless Compassion: Creating a Way of Life by Joyce Rupp. Starting June 23, worship will focus on developing and deepening our compassion. If you would like to go deeper, join Pastor Robin on Tuesdays, starting June 18, for a group experience with the book. The first week will be an introduction, then for the six weeks there will be daily exercises to follow. The group will meet at 1:00 pm on Tuesdays in the Omer Lay room to reflect on the week’s exercises. If you would like a book – for individual reflection or for the group experience – please let the church office or Pastor Robin know by June 1. Cost for the book will be $13.29.

Decision Regarding Sale of Land on June 2 after Worship
During our discussion around the tables on May 5, those gathered empowered the church board to pursue securing an appraisal for the 3 acres on the east side of the church campus. If the appraisal is ready in time, we will discuss moving forward with selling the property on June 2. This decision will not be to accept an offer from a buyer, but to move forward in seeking a buyer based on the appraised value of the land. Click here to read comments from the discussion around the tables, which included information regarding our current financial situation and information gathered regarding the sale of the land and other options to meet the church’s financial needs.

May Book Club
Everyone’s invited to the next Bethel Book Club on Wednesday, May 22. We will be discussing The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. For a change of pace, we’re going to meet at 1 p.m. at "Sabu's Books," the great new bookstore owned by our own Sabreena Anowar! "Sabu's Books" is at 4603 John Garry Dr, Suite 12, just west of Las Margaritas restaurant.

The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks, a true story, has many eye-opening moments. For example, we learn that cells from this poor Black woman, taken without her knowledge or consent in 1951, have been instrumental in developing vaccines for rabies, smallpox, measles, and drugs for leukemia, breast and colon cancer, among many others. Read the book, then come join us for discussion!

Questions? Call Connie Edwards, 660-281-1598.

Check out our website!! www.bethelcomo.org
There is a window motif throughout. The pictures are of our stained-glass window. We decided to pull out the circle with the cross that is part of it as an image to use throughout the website – windows into Bethel. There is a member portal in the top menu on the home page. If you click that button, you will need a password to access that page. That page is the only one that requires a password. If you do not have this password, email the church office.

New Puzzle Library!
Do you like to put jigsaw puzzles together? Do you have several at home you’ve already done, and would like to find a new home for? Are you looking for a new puzzle, but don’t want to buy one? We now have a free “Puzzle Library” at Bethel just for you! Located in the Omer Lay classroom just off the Sanctuary, there are several puzzles available to borrow. Just select one or two, take them home, then return them when you’re done. Please make sure to get all the pieces back in the box! And if you have some puzzles at home that you’re finished with, bring them to church and add them to the collection. This is a great way for us puzzle enthusiasts to enjoy working a new puzzle, and to share our love for puzzles!
